It was back in the 1980es that Prince was announced to perform in Finland for the first time. The show never happened, and neither did the one scheduled a few years back.


Purple Le Prince was just right for him.

Despite the technical difficulties of the past, Prince couldn’t resist Finland anymore. Now he found a bicycle that suits his style. Even the colour is right. And so, the little big guy is finally going to perform live at Hartwall Arena, Helsinki, tonight!

Last saturday's yksivaihde.net -birthday party in Turku was awesome. At least 80 fixed gear riders were celebrating yksivaihde.net. There were so many beautiful bicycles and good looking riders. Sky was clear and beer was cold. What more you can ask for?

Le Prince team @ Eurobike 2010

It’s been a while since the last update. We visited the Eurobike 2010 last week at Friedrichshafen, Germany. Eurobike is the largest event of the bicycle industry in the World. It is held annually late august or early September. Four days of beautiful bicycles, parts, bags, clothes, you name it. First three days are for the media and trade visitors and on the last day of the exhibition the gates are open to the public as well.

Friedrichshafen is located by the Bodensee, which is a lake surrounded by Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The easiest way to get there is to fly to Zurich and take a train and a ferry to Friedrichshafen. It takes about three hours. If you are a trade visitor, there is a free shuttle bus connection straight to Friedrichshafen.

If you are planning to visit Eurobike next year, remember to book your accommodation in advance. We didn’t do that and our hotel was located at the village of Isny im Allgau which was 60 km’s from the exhibition grounds. There are free bus connections to nearby villages, but our hotel was not in one of these places. We had to hire a car and our expected beer consumption dropped at least 80%.

Before Eurobike we spent a day in Zurich. Most of the (trendy) bicycles we saw in Zurich were 90’s road bikes. We spotted only one fixed gear rider in the City. It must be the hilly roads that reduce the amount of fixed wheelies over there.

Eurobike 2010 presented a wide range of different kind of bicycles and bicycle-like products. As far as I am concerned the anti- Highlights of the Eurobike were the leather covered bicycle and the “multisex-bicycle”.

There was a cool mix of different kind of fixed gear bikes. Dodici had the biggest influence on me. They didn’t have a stand of their own, but they walked around the exhibition area with their bikes.

This is the first Le Prince prototype. Frame is originally from some kind of Crescent pursuit bicycle.
The front wheel is self painted 650b time trial wheel, maybe from the 80's. It used to be white. Crank set is vintage Gipiemme Pista. I love this bicycle. :)

Spring time is here and the sun is shining! If you haven't started your cycling season, do it today! In Finland, the fixed gear culture has increased a lot from last summer. A fixed gear bicycle is more than just a regular bike. It's a social vehicle that brings people together.

I reckon that the main reason for the growth of fixed gear culture is the great world of internet. There are so many nice websites to visit. If you're finnish, join www.yksivaihde.net community and get yourself to the center of the finnish fixed gear culture. Find some other cool sites on the right side of this page. Le Prince's task is to increase the growth of the brilliant fixed gear culture even more.

Le Prince products have been available for customers for a couple of weeks and the feedback has been amazing. That feels fantastic! We sell Le Prince in Turku Finland, but for the people in Helsinki area; We have couple of 53 cm Le Prince bicycles in Helsinki, so if you want to have a test drive or just a look at the bicycle, contact joonas@leprince.fi.
